From Where I Sit: The Spaces in Our Lives
There is a theory that anyone can draw - it's simply a matter of learning how to observe more carefully. And, whenever you do observe more specifically you find the world is full of interesting spaces.
When we enter a space we can participate as an on-looker, as an integrated part of the space, or as an agent of change in the space. There is positive space - filled with the subject, and negative space - the area that is unfilled but, when observed carefully, has its own special and powerful shapes. The joy/job of an artist is to catch fleeting moments in spaces that constantly change - and to capture spaces that lead the viewer into their own spaces, their own stories.
These paintings offer the viewer an opportunity to observe and participate - and, ideally, encourage people to observe more carefully the world around them.
